Sometimes I can be a bit “spontaneous”. The inspiration for this accent came to me through scrolling on Pinterest on a Sunday. The wall was built and completed Monday. Seriously. That should tell you two things. One – it was super easy. Two- It was super affordable.
Now here is the disclaimer my husband would like for me to make. Yes, this wall cost us $25. We had paint, silicone, a nail gun, and nails all at home. So those items we didn’t need to buy but if you don’t have those items this will cost more than $25. Also, our wall was just short of 8ft wide. So if your wall is bigger, well you’ll need more wood. 😉
Here is the supply list:
- 9 – 2 1/2ft X 8ft MDF primed trim (this can be tricky to find so you may have to ask for help) At our Home Depot I know I found the right one when I see the price. $2.15/board
- White Paint (I used the same paint I’ve been using to paint all my cabinets)
- Paintable Silicone (caulk)
- 5 Hooks
You’ll start out by making a box. I did this first before painting so I could use it as my “paint tape”. I hate taping more than anything.
We put trim all the way around. Even a bottom piece that sits on top of our baseboard. Once that was done I painted the inside.
Then we put the horizonal piece up. This is what you’ll hang the hooks on. I placed ours about 1/3 of the way down.
The next part is where measurement and maybe a mathematician comes in handy. We knew we wanted “5” spaces so we did the math and then placed our vertical trim boards. We did play around with them a bit before we had them spaced how we liked then nailed them in.
After we got the bottom vertical boards in we placed the top ones. We then siliconed all the “joints” and painted the trim boards with a roller.
I honestly was shocked how easy and fast this project was going so while we waited for the trim to dry I ran up to Hobby Lobby and grabbed the bench I’d been eyeing and the hooks! The hooks were 50% off so only $1/piece!
I am so happy I found the inspiration for the simple, affordable and easy project! It made such a big impact!
